Doulas
As Kooshlie Care Doula Services continues to grow and evolve, I’ve come to realize just how important it is to have a wonderful, diverse group of doulas to lean on for backup support and shared knowledge. These incredible individuals are key to ensuring that I can provide the highest level of care and support to every client I work with. Each doula who joins this network brings their own unique perspective, energy, and expertise, helping us offer a more well-rounded and enriched experience as we move forward.
If you’d like to learn more about any of the doulas listed below or connect directly, please don’t hesitate to reach out to them via the linked emails. They’re all here to support you in any way they can.

Jessica Greene
Jessica is the owner of Kooshlie Care Doula Services, in Western North Carolina. She has been a practicing doula for ten years, and is a certified Lamaze instructor, and birth doula.
Growing up in a large family in the mountains had an enormous impact on how Jessica supports growing families now. Going with the flow, and finding ease and stability within the unpredictability of the on-call doula lifestyle comes naturally to her. She is an expert at communicating with and mediating between parties, helping families to build trust with one another and with their care providers, and at working within hospital systems to improve outcomes and relationships there. Jessica is especially adept at supporting clients who have a history of anxiety, fear or trauma.
Jessica’s first love is her family: her husband Stuart, their two children, Naomi and Bruce, and their gentle giant of a dog, Thor. Her faith in Jesus, and the belief that women are designed and created with the innate ability to give birth, is the bedrock of Jessica’s work, and helps her to support her clients from a perspective of humility and joyful expectation. Her vision for both personal work and agency reach this year is to help her clients step into their God-given roles: to support women in becoming mothers, men in becoming fathers, and couples in becoming families.

Denise Mills
I am an RN, and Certified Birth Doula, and offer both birth and postpartum Doula support. I also work as a nurse assistant to midwives in homebirth practice in this area. I am currently training to be an infant sleep consultant.
With 8 years of experience as a doula, I am pleased to support first-time and repeat birthing families, during vaginal and Cesarean births, VBAC, surrogate, and multiple births. I also have much experience supporting families through high-risk births and pregnancy loss.
I spent the first half of my working life as a park ranger, camp director, and environmental educator. Then I became a nurse and worked for many years in end-of-life care and as a hospice nurse, and also as a psychiatric nurse. Upon retirement, I came at last to my long-held passion of birth work, as the best “retirement career” ever possible! I waited a long time to make birth work a priority in my life, and the wait was definitely worthwhile.
I have given birth to two children of my own. One of those births was a hospital birth which ended in a cesarean delivery. The second was an unmedicated birth at home. They were both amazing and transformative experiences that definitely inform my support as a birth doula.
I believe that in the world of pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting, just as in the world of nature, education and knowledge leads to greater understanding. And understanding leads to more trust, acceptance and appreciation of the process.
In addition to providing support on the physical, emotional, spiritual, and informational levels, an equal and essential aspect of my support involves being a part of your safety net, should it become necessary for you to step off the cliff of control and into the freefall of the unknown and unplanned. My goal for you both is to feel safe and strong and supported, no matter what becomes necessary during your pregnancy and birth. Ultimately, every birth can be a beautiful experience, even if it is not the one you envisioned originally. But having solid support and guidance as you step beyond your plan is essential. I will be strong with you and for you. I realize that I am being invited to share one of the most intimate experiences of your life together as a couple. I do not take that invitation lightly, but consider it an honor and a privilege.

Martha discovered her doula heart the day she gave birth to her son, Elijah. Since 1996, Martha has attended a wide array of births: Hospital and home births, water births, cesarean births, stillbirths and miscarriages, teen births, and twins. Each birth and family she has been honored to serve, have left a mark on her heart.
Martha wants a doula for every woman that wishes to have one, regardless of means. She has witnessed that with emotional, physical and informational support, women can have empowered births.
As a doula, Martha is experienced, reliable, a good listener, steadfast and a joy to be around. She strives to ensure that birth partners feel included and prepared to assist at their comfort level. She also comes with a wealth of knowledge on comfort measures, breastfeeding, and postpartum support. She sees birth as a moment in time where your doula can ground you and yours with the support you deserve.
Martha lives in Hendersonville with her wife, Amanda, and their two pups, Beatrice and Zorra.
