This month, I want to shine a spotlight on Martha Draughn. Martha has been a valuable member of our team for about two years now. Her presence alone brings a sense of joy and positivity to everyone around her.
As a birth and postpartum doula with Kooshlie Doula Services, Martha provides comprehensive support to families during these transformative times. When we discussed her passion for her work, it became evident why she loves what she does. Martha’s genuine desire to focus on the needs of the family during birth allows her to fully immerse herself in their support and that of their partner. She finds immense fulfillment in providing the peace, comfort, and joy that enable parents to relax, smile, and fully embrace the journey of parenthood.
Beyond her exceptional support during birth, Martha is also a skilled breastfeeding educator. During her clinical training in 2008, one of the local lactation consultants working with her was astounded by her natural talent and expertise in the field. Martha embodies the three core pillars of Kooshlie Care Doula Services: Educate, Empower, and Support. As a birth doula or a postpartum doula, she provides a nurturing and empowering presence, sharing her knowledge and skills to boost the confidence of new families.
Martha has been interested and worked in the world of birth since the birth of her son in 1996. She has supported home birth midwives, teens, twins, loss, high risk, peaceful home births, birth center births, and lovely and joy filled hospital births, and cesarean births. Martha loves to provide postpartum support allowing for the new parents to relax, sleep and knowing their baby is in safe and loving hands.
Currently Martha is also working with Stitchwalker. She works with her wife, Amanda on cutting buttons out of antlers, and painting beautiful designs on these amazing boots. She often puts her painting skills to use doing placenta art, she is a true artist in every sense of the word.
My family has been personally so blessed by knowing Martha, my daughter lights up when she knows that she is stopping by. If you are considering adding Martha to your support team, either in birth or Postpartum, let me just tell you, DO IT.
Martha, we are incredibly grateful to have you on our team and in our wonderful community of Western North Carolina. Your unwavering dedication to providing love, support, and a much-needed confidence boost to new families is truly commendable. <3
